The Charlotte, N.C., Police Department is keeping a portable restroom operator from landing a new account. Occupy Charlotte protesters set up outside of the city’s Old City Hall have been denied permission to bring in a portable restroom and set it up on public property.
The folks who are protesting "corporate greed'' use restrooms at nearby public buildings during the day, but don’t have a restroom to use in the overnight hours. According to news accounts, the protesters have been camping in tents for two weeks and they vow to stay at it for a full year. A couple of restrooms and a hand-wash station placed at the site long term would be a nice little revenue generator for a portable sanitation provider.
One group supports the ban on restrooms. The local TEA Party, which had its own protest in the same location, was also denied access to place restrooms on private property. Those protesters say the Occupy Charlotte campers should live by the same rules.
Both groups were told they could set up restrooms on nearby private property if they could get permission from property owners.
