A while back, I received an e-mail from Stan Potter, of A Clean Environment, Wilson, Okla.: “What is the best way to hold the door on your portable restroom open while cleaning and servicing? Is there a tool, or just carry something heavy?’’
Hmm. I’ve never given a lot of thought to this question. When I see a technician cleaning a restroom, he or she is usually propping the door open with a leg or a five-gallon bucket of water. I have to admit sometimes it looks like a clumsy operation, and maybe there’s a better way.
I haven’t seen a manufactured tool for holding a restroom door open, whether it’s a doorstop of some kind, a hook-and-rope affair, or a stick wedged between the open door and the doorframe. But that doesn’t mean such a tool doesn’t exist, even if it’s a homemade solution. I’m sure some resourceful portable restroom operators have devised their own door prop to ease the cleaning job, especially at events where long rows of restrooms are required and you’d like to stop the door from flopping shut all the time.
If you have a solution to share and save Stan from the frustration of the banging door, drop me a note (and include a photo if you have one) at editor@promonthly.com. I’ll share your ideas with readers of PRO.
