Some of the instructions on do-it-yourself websites are quite basic, but this one takes the cake. The website eHow.com (http://www.ehow.com/how_7624153_use-portable-potty.html) posted writer Charlotte Johnson’s step-by-step guide to using a portable restroom. I had no idea instructions were necessary.

First, Johnson says users should check the sign on the door to see if the unit is vacant or occupied. Then she recommends pulling the handle to open the door and entering, turning around so you’re facing the door and latching the handle … and so forth. In the tutorial, the procedure is classified as “moderately easy.’’ If using a restroom is “moderately’’ easy, I wonder what sort of tasks are considered “very’’ easy.

Are people having any trouble figuring out how to use your units? Are you running into any particular issues that would require instruction on locking the door latches or personal hygiene? Have you found it necessary to post signs with instructions in your units, for instance telling users not to put certain items in the holding tank?

Share your stories by sending an e-mail to editor@promonthly.com and I will post them right here on my blog.
