Marvin Hyer, Jr., and his employer, Johnny On The Spot in Old Bridge, N.J., are the subject of a lengthy feature in Bloomberg Business Week’s lifestyle section under the subject line of odd jobs.

On the positive side, Hyer was able to highlight the growing quality of special event restroom trailers and point out how the company has serves celebrity studded events. On the negative side, the writer took the opportunity to repeat a number of tired old jokes at the expense of the portable sanitation industry. The story also started out saying Hyer has one of the “worst jobs on the planet.’’ According to who?

In the end, Hyer did a good job of representing the industry and is a great example of someone who’s making a career in this challenging service business. Have you been thrust into the local media to talk about your portable sanitation business? If so, tell us about it.
