As Hurricane Sandy makes landfall Monday evening, I’d like to know how PROs in New Jersey, New York and beyond have prepared for the arrival of what the news media is calling the “Frankenstorm.’’
With winds expected to reach 85 mph or greater along the heavily populated East Coast region tonight, efforts to tie down restroom units will likely be futile. Lightweight polyethylene restroom side panels will act as sails to pry the units away from the most secure footing.
So I’m wondering, have you been scrambling to pump and remove your restroom inventory from construction sites and parks up and down the shoreline and well inland? And even if you bring dozens or hundreds of units back to the yard, will they be any safer from the wrath of the storm? Not too many portable sanitation companies have indoor storage to shelter their inventory.
A storm like this raises many important questions for PROs. Are your units insured against natural disasters? Do your customers, especially municipal clients, have environmental concerns about restroom holding tank spills or scattered debris? How do you plan to deal with a disaster of this magnitude in the future?
After you batten down the hatches, please send us a response to tell us how you’re coping with this monumental storm. Share your thoughts right here, or send me an email at editor@promonthly.com and I promise to respond.
