Over the years, I’ve noticed a growth in woman-owned portable sanitation businesses. I meet more female decision makers at the Pumper & Cleaner Environmental Expo every year.
I see women stepping up from traditional roles of bookkeeper and office manager to build new and expand established restroom businesses. They handle marketing, they buy vacuum trucks, and many are running service routes along with their male counterparts.
And today in my email box, I received some interesting statistics about woman-owned businesses from Debora McLaughlin, author of the book The Renegade Leader: 9 Success Strategies Driven Leaders Use to Ignite People, Performance and Profits. (www.TheRenegadeLeader.com)
According to McLaughlin, there are currently 8.2 million American companies run by women and women are launching businesses at 1.5 times the national average.
“To claim, own and keep the keys to the corner office, women executives need to be seen, heard and to lead with greater influence and impact,” McLaughlin says.
She makes many suggestions for women to raise their stature in the business world. Among her tips, McLaughlin suggests women business owners develop a personal brand, build a personal executive network and take stands on issues they believe are important.
Are you a woman owner of a portable sanitation business? If so, what are you doing to help your company stand out from the competition? We’d love to share your success story with readers of PRO.
