The concept of San Francisco’s Painted Ladies is being taken to a whole new level as a way to conceal street-side portable restrooms. The city known for its beautifully painted Victorian houses, dubbed the Painted Ladies, is seeing construction contractors matching the look of those stately homes with fancy enclosures for portable restrooms.
Check it out a story here:
I wonder if this idea will catch on with PROs and building contractors who work in other urban and suburban areas where passing residents don’t want to see standard portable restrooms. I was surprised to read about one homebuilder who spends $1,000 to construct these elaborate enclosures.
“It's a clean, elegant design,” builder Peter Downey told the San Francisco Chronicle. “We use tongue-and-groove vertical redwood with aluminum for accents. People always notice it; we feel it represents the company. The neighbors are uniformly happy. It makes everything look better.”
So how do you think this idea would go over in your neighborhood? Have you considered sprucing up the appearance of your units for construction sites to keep the customer happy? Or would you be concerned that the damage you see on construction units in general would result in vandalism of these enclosures as well? Let me know what you think.
