The Portable Sanitation Association International and concerned people around the world recognized and celebrated World Portable Sanitation Day on November 19, 2017, in conjunction with World Toilet Day.

In developed countries like the United States there is the luxury of safe restroom facilities in most buildings, and portable restrooms are available for every situation from natural disasters to recreation events. Portable restrooms provide a solution to some of the world’s sanitation challenges — and they save 125 million gallons of fresh water daily. That water is desperately needed in many of the countries where sanitation is also an issue.

The PSAI began its World Portable Sanitation Day/World Toilet Day celebrations on November 2, 2017 with an “Urgent Run” 5K in Minneapolis, Minnesota, that raised more than $4,000 for a toilet-related charity, Friends of Ngong Road. FoNR is the parent charity operating Karibu Loo, a portable sanitation company in Nairobi, Kenya. FoNR and Karibu Loo assist children whose families have been affected by AIDS with completing their schooling and by providing employment opportunities upon graduation.

On November 19, the PSAI joined a global WPSD/WTD celebration that is part of an ongoing campaign to raise awareness and promote change by engaging people all over the world in expanding access to sustainable sanitation. Over time, it is the goal of WPSD to transform their interest and ingenuity into local solutions that prevent the spread of disease, save water and improve the quality of life.

The Portable Sanitation Association International invites you to join next year in recognizing World Portable Sanitation Day and World Toilet Day on November 19, 2018. Join us in bringing these issues to the forefront of concern and help us to raise the awareness and promote change to make sustainable sanitation a priority.
