In 2010 the ABC-TV series Extreme Makeover: Home Edition did a project in Hamburg, Pennsylvania, with the assistance of the local Home Builders Association of Berks County. When the TV crew left, the association was inspired to do something similar on an ongoing basis for people in their community who could use some help. They set up the HBA Restoring Hope Foundation, which operates under the philosophy “a hand up not a handout.”
