When James and Cecelia Hope established Rocky Mountain Portable Toilets last year in Boise, Idaho, they decided on two building blocks for the business: quality service and nice-looking restrooms.

The couple achieves the former through hard work and thorough restroom cleaning. The latter is provided by Five Peaks, which manufactured the roughly 375 Aspen restrooms the company has purchased since January 2018. The 48-year-old entrepreneur and his wife are building the company’s brand around sculpted, multicolor restrooms.

James Hope says the company owns Aspen units in nine different colors or color combinations: blue, orange, yellow, lime green, pink, red and gray, blue and orange, lime green and gray, and blue and gray. Customers like having so many options, he says.

On a practical level, however, Hope likes the Aspen’s 28-inch-wide door and the elliptical shape that makes them wider in the middle (46 1/2 inches) than on the top and bottom. He says this provides ample interior space for users.

In addition, Hope likes other features such as large-diameter urinals with a lip for minimizing splashback; two interior shelves — one with a cup holder built into it; and a coat hook on the back of the door. “They’re also light (150 pounds) so they’re easy to move around. When you’re loading or unloading them, that weight comes into play every day.”

Better yet, and entirely coincidentally, the Aspens include a mountainscape scene molded into its two side panels, almost as if it were branded just for Rocky Mountain Portables. “I’ve even had customers ask me if we had them specifically made that way,” Hope says. “It helps my branding efforts.”
