Portable Sanitation Aids Earthquake-Stricken California Town
The July 4 and 5 earthquakes in California’s Searles Valley, magnitudes 6.4 and 7.1 respectively, left many residents without water, natural gas and electric. According to CBS KCAL-TV 9, the unincorporated town of Trona — home to about 2,000 — was particularly affected with 80% of the town without water.
While electricity and natural gas was restored to the town by the following Monday, residents remained without water for a week. Portable restrooms and portable shower units were brought in, and the National Guard distributed drinking water to residents and livestock alike.
