When Kasey Salvetti inquired about being a vendor at a wedding expo, organizers initially wrinkled their noses and questioned the idea of having portable restrooms displayed among the cakes, flowers and wedding frills from other businesses. But in the Pacific Northwest where the outdoor wedding market is booming, portable restrooms are a necessity. And Salvetti’s units are far from ordinary.

“We have been the first ones allowed in quite a few shows,” she says. “We have to explain it upfront, and we’ve changed some minds when they see the product. There’s lots of excitement around our booth.”

Her business, Luxury Restroom Trailers by Privy Chambers, based in Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, only rents trailer units. The units are provided by JAG Mobile Solutions, Black Tie Products and NuConcepts. She and her mother, Julie Herring, are majority owners in the business that began a couple of years after Salvetti’s outdoor wedding and her personal frustration with finding appropriate restrooms.

“Brides, grooms, mothers of the brides, event coordinators and designers all have high-end expectations,” Salvetti says. “A clean, well-maintained and well-decorated restroom is the best way to meet those expectations. This is a premium product, and our clients expect premium results.”

Primarily focused on weddings, Salvetti has found wedding expos to be an excellent marketing tool for clients from the Pacific Northwest, as well as out-of-staters planning outdoor weddings in the region with a wide range of venues, from the ocean to mountain backdrops.

Salvetti sets up her display with as much emphasis on the exterior as on what’s inside. The white trailers are wrapped with Luxury Restroom Trailers’ elegant chandelier light and crystal chain logo. She creates an environment with artificial shrubs and decorations to replicate how it looks when set up for a real wedding.

She guarantees the trailers will be as clean at weddings and events as they are at wedding expos.

“I would say one of the more unique aspects outside of our custom designs is our incredible attention to detail on cleanliness — cleanliness of the outside of the restrooms, cleanliness of the inside of the restrooms and cleanliness of our tanks. If a tank has odors, it is not event-ready. We take several extra steps in ensuring we have the cleanest tanks possible without needing to mask unpleasant smells with deodorizers,” Salvetti says.

The interiors are packed with details such as vessel sinks, backlit mirrors, beautiful woodwork, floor-to-ceiling interior doors and modern colors. They accent the comforts — air conditioning, heat, LED lighting, sound systems and hands-free flush toilets.

Salvetti estimates they gain five to 12 clients annually from shows in the Portland and Seattle markets, but sees another benefit in attending them. “The shows give us a foothold in the event industry, and we create long-lasting relationships with other vendors, and much networking is possible,” she says, which results in even more clients.

She emphasizes the importance of having an actual restroom trailer at shows events, rather than just photos, so that attendees know exactly what services you offer.

“The restroom has to be absolutely pristine, and you need to create the experience so they see what it looks like on site.”
